The LCD TV replaced the CRT - kinescope relatively recently. Functional, with low energy consumption, and without harmful radiation, such LED and LCD matrices have become popular among electronic devices and have almost replaced outdated devices that use CRTs. However, new products also break. Various malfunctions of TVs are not uncommon, including breakdowns of LCD matrices. In connection with which their replacement or timely repair is required. You can replace or repair the LCD matrix yourself.
Operating principle of the LCD matrix
An LCD matrix is a working surface made of glass with several million pixels; they change color, as well as the brightness of their glow, due to the influence of external control signals. Matrix pixels form the image that we see.
In order to control some pixels, microcircuits are used.
ICs are drivers that control signals that send a specific signal for each pixel. Typically, control drivers are located on flexible cables soldered into the very base of the matrix glass. This cable cannot be separated from the glass; it is also impossible to replace one cable. In addition, it contains driver power parts, as well as decoder chips. See also -

Matrix faults
Matrix failures can be divided into the following groups:
- Mechanical disturbances (matrix bends, water penetration, impact).
- Failure of microcircuits and other parts (resistor, diodes, capacitor, inductors) that ensure the constant operation of these image-forming microcircuits. They are on a flexible, non-removable cable.
- Violation of the permanent cable
- “Burn-out” of pixels that have ceased to be operational without a mechanical justification.
- Backlight doesn't work
The malfunctions of the matrices described above lead to their replacement, since repairs will be too expensive or simply impossible. Replacement in this case is the priority option. For example, the backlight inverter for fluorescent lamps is often located on the power supply board, and the lamps are also easy to replace. It is more difficult to deal with failures in the operation of LED backlights; usually the manufacturer controls it using flexible, permanent cables. However, here you can try to make repairs yourself.

How to replace the matrix on a TV
Individual replacement of the matrix in an LCD TV begins after thorough preparation for this important event.
The latter involves familiarizing yourself with the procedure for carrying out the work and purchasing a new matrix along with a protective acrylic screen. It is purchased to protect the new product from possible damage during future use of the TV. Preparation of the workplace After the new matrix and protective screen have been purchased, you can proceed to preparing the workplace for the upcoming repair. It includes the following preparatory operations:
— first of all, you will need to lay a soft cloth or a sheet of not too hard cardboard on the desktop (this will eliminate the possibility of small scratches appearing on the LCD screen);
- then you will need to prepare the necessary set of hand tools (a set of screwdrivers with attachments and tweezers);
- and finally, you will need to stock up on a thin metal plate.
After all this is ready, you can proceed directly to replacing the television matrix.
Instructions for replacing the matrix on a TV
The procedure for carrying out typical repair operations (it can be represented as instructions for replacing the matrix) is as follows:
- In the first step, you will need to remove all connecting wires and cables from the LCD TV connectors (if it is installed on a bracket on the wall, you will have to remove it and move it to your workplace).
- After this, you will need to carefully separate the front part of the structure from the back panel.
- To do this, use a suitable screwdriver from the prepared set to unscrew the special screws holding these two parts together.
- Then the matrix is laid face down on a soft surface.
- And only after this, using a previously prepared plate or a device suitable for these purposes (but not a knife!) should the latches on the detachable parts be loosened.
Please note:
Some TV samples use standard screw connections instead of plastic latches for fastening.
To remove them you will need the appropriate tool from the prepared kit.
Dismantling the old matrix
All subsequent operations involve complete removal of the damaged matrix from the TV case and preparation for its replacement with a new sample. They can be presented in the following form:
- First you need to dismantle the old matrix, having first disconnected the electrical power supply and the separately laid signal cable from it.
- It is recommended to do this with extreme caution, which is possible only after a preliminary careful examination of the cable mounting system.
- The junction with the matrix to be removed is glued with a special tape on the assembly line, which should be removed very carefully during dismantling (so as not to damage the electronic components).
Once disassembly is complete, the new matrix is removed from the packaging and prepared for installation.
To do this, you will need to wipe its surfaces and edges with a damp cloth, and then fix the metal fasteners on it. Installation of a new matrix
The procedure for installing a new matrix into the LCD TV case is as follows:
- First, the purchased product is applied with metal brackets to the installation locations and fixed to them.
- Then a signal cable and a separate power wire are connected to it.
- After this, you should conduct a test check of the functionality of the new matrix.
- Next, you will need to assemble the case in the reverse order to that described during disassembly, and then install the protective screen.
- At the final stage, all that remains is to coordinate the new matrix with the TV control unit.
Additional information:
In some cases, after installation and docking with the control unit, the image does not appear on the screen, which indicates their inconsistency.
To coordinate these modules, you will need to change the settings in the TV menu. The procedure for carrying out this procedure is described in detail in the documentation supplied with the LCD TV.
Features of replacing the LCD matrix in various TV models
Depending on the type and brand of the LCD TV sample being restored, minor nuances are possible when replacing the matrix. They mainly concern the features of mounting the rear panel on the product body. In this case, two different approaches to the TV disassembly procedure are possible: by accessing from the front side of the product and from the rear (from the rear plane).
Front access
In this case, disassembling the equipment begins with pressing out the special latches that hold the back panel in a fixed state.
Note:
On LCD TV models with protective glass, when restoring, it is best to replace it too.
After all the latches on the case are disconnected and the back panel is removed, access to the LCD TV matrix, fixed to the TV case using standard screws, opens.
They will also have to be unscrewed using a screwdriver and a socket from the previously prepared set. You should also pay attention that some of the screw fastenings are duplicated with a special latch. At the final stage of frontal disassembly, all that remains is to remove all the fasteners from the back wall of the TV that cover the electronic boards of the device.
Rear access
If you need to replace the matrix in LG or Samsung LCD TVs, for example, you will need to remove all the fasteners holding the back panel. In addition, you will need to dismantle the stand (if you have to restore a desktop model).
Since screws of different lengths are usually used at different mounting points on the rear panel, you will need to remember the corresponding location. To eliminate accidental errors when assembling the product, experts advise that even before disassembling begins, photograph the exact location of the fastening elements on a photo of the phone.
No matter how complex your problem is, our COMPMASTER service center specialists will deal with it quickly and with a quality guarantee. We will repair your TV in the shortest possible time, with a guarantee and not expensive.
Disassembling a TV with a front housing system
The principle of replacing the matrix depends on the TV model, manufacturer, and the size of the matrix. However, there are general rules. There are two popular types of housing fastening - screw connections and plastic latches.
The front panel of the cladding must be pressed out and the latches removed. Then you will see the matrix screwed to the main body of the TV using metal screws or screws. You need to unscrew each fastener and separate it. Be careful - the screws may be doubled with latches. It will also be necessary to dismantle the bolts on the back wall of the TV; they secure the case with a metal screen that provides protection against malfunctions of the power supply and control board.
When everything is done as needed, the matrix with all the electronics should be separated from the body. To prevent chips and scratches, it is recommended to place the element on a soft fabric; flannel is perfect for this. Next, disconnect the panel from the connecting cable, be extremely careful. In some situations, for additional fastening, as well as protection against movement of the cable, the manufacturer glues strips of adhesive tape to the connection.
Carefully remove it, lift the clamp - pawl located on the connector, you can use small tweezers for this. To avoid damaging narrow paths, you must try to remove the cable without swinging it in different directions. Then you need to remove the stiffening panel from the matrix. For this purpose, we unscrew the screws from the ends; different manufacturers may have 2–12 pieces on one side.
Is it possible to repair an LCD TV if the screen is broken?
Plasma TVs have long ago become permanent cohabitants in our apartments, because such devices produce very high-quality images. The image quality is ideal for action films, sports competitions, and even cartoons. But then a heavy children's toy flies into the TV, and your “electronic friend” stops transmitting the image, showing only a crack with colored stripes on the display. What to do in such cases? Is it possible to repair an LCD TV if the screen is broken? Do not rush to be sad, perhaps this article will help you find the most optimal solution to this problem.
What is a plasma TV screen?
The main component of such a screen is the matrix. The matrix contains simply a huge number of particles that are filled with a mixture of neon and xenon. The perimeter of the matrix is framed by semiconductors. An electric current passes through the gaseous medium and creates UV light, which causes the phosphors to glow. This whole cunning process leads to the glow of the cell with the desired color, and in total tens of thousands of cells form the picture that we see every day.
The entire screen device is located in a relatively small space between two planes, which are usually made of special glass.
Important! Previously, models could boast of glass thickness that was only 3 millimeters. But progress, together with manufacturers, has been made by new models with a thickness of only 2 millimeters. Such innovations have significantly reduced the weight of the device, but made it even more fragile, which leads to fraught consequences.

Is it possible to repair a broken LCD TV screen if it is cracked? Let's talk about this.
If the display is cracked
Cracks on the outer glass violate the integrity of the matrix, and the gas mixture freely leaves its “reservoir”. Such a malfunction cannot be repaired. There is only one way out - buying a new matrix.
Important! The matrix of the device costs almost the same as the TV itself, so most often it’s easier to buy a new TV.
Experienced users recommend not to repair plasma panels, which are home theater components and do not have any audio output devices or other useful components. This case will definitely require purchasing a new panel. But if a plasma TV with a huge range of functions is broken, then it will be possible to speculate. But you should understand that only in 1 out of 5 cases will it be profitable to carry out repairs.
Therefore, immediately read the rating of the best 40-inch LED TVs; perhaps you will decide that buying a new TV will still be more profitable.
Important! Remember that the quality of any device largely depends on the brand and where the device is assembled. Find out where TVs of different brands are assembled.
Have you decided to change the matrix?
The matrix can be repaired, but even here you will have to be a little upset: you cannot do repairs at home, and even here enormous difficulties arise - this is the transportation of plasma. Experts recommend transporting such equipment only in an upright position and avoiding any tilt angles so as not to cause overload.
Important! If you are the happy owner of a huge plasma, and you have a small car in your yard, you will have to fork out not only for repairs, but also for transporting the broken device.
Before sending the “corpse” of the TV to the technical center, make sure once again that all manipulations are cost-effective. To avoid huge wasted expenses, it is recommended to call a specialist to your home. A specialist will arrive, conduct a diagnosis and put forward a solution with which it is best to agree. Also, in addition to diagnostics, for a small fee, the specialists themselves will transport the TV in compliance with all safety regulations. You will only need to agree on the meeting and make a decision, wait a couple of days and go for the finished TV.
Important! Is it possible to repair an LCD TV if there are streaks or spots on the screen? You can, and read about this in more detail in the articles:
- Vertical stripes on LCD TV.
- Dark spots on the LCD TV screen.
It is best to try to avoid such a breakdown in the future.
Preventive measures
A repaired TV arrived at your home, but children, animals or a clumsy family member are still capable of breaking the screen? Something needs to be done urgently.
For such TVs, special protective screens made of acrylic are produced. Such surfaces are not afraid of water or scratches, and children will be able to throw their toys at the screen without forcing their parents to take out a loan for a new device. In addition, such protection saves you from dust, which, by the way, is also the old sworn enemy of televisions. Therefore, the purchase of an “accessory” is the most popular. If you take care of your equipment, you will be able to watch football, movies or cartoons for a long time.
There is also another preventive measure for TV care. To do this you will need to purchase a bracket. Using the bracket allows you to install the plasma directly under the ceiling. Such measures will help to avoid accidental “back pushing” or the consequences of children's active games at home. True, the bracket will cost a little more, and its installation is a completely separate topic.

What to do if the matrix is faulty?
If the matrix in your TV is faulty, first of all you should contact us to find out the availability or replacement of the matrix, as well as the cost and delivery time of the matrix. Give us a call.
Read for everyone, Important!
Before you call or about the cost of replacing the matrix, SO AS NOT TO WASTE YOUR AND OUR TIME, first find out the TV model, since there are many modifications of LCD, LED or LCD matrices, even within the same TV model. Thus, there are hundreds of items for each screen size. It is IMPOSSIBLE to provide you with information without a model.
How to determine the TV model?
THE MODEL NUMBER IS FOUND ON A STICKER ON THE BACK OF THE TV. The so-called nameplate. Looks like that:
Do not try to read the model number from the box or documentation. Often the model number is partially reflected there, or is written for several models with different screen sizes at once. The information will be inaccurate, and you and I will simply waste time.
Or maybe they will “foist” a fake or “Chinese” matrix on my TV?
The manufacturer works hard to ensure that the user cannot easily resolve the issue of replacing a cracked screen.
Therefore, in nature Attention! THERE ARE NO UNIVERSAL MATRICES FOR ANY TV!!!
Each model has a clearly defined matrix model.
Moreover, even the same TV model, depending on the batch of goods, may have several different matrix variations. And these variations are not interchangeable!!! Depending on the type of matrix, the TV must be programmed for a specific matrix option.
Is it possible to restore a broken or cracked LCD, LED or LCD TV matrix?
We receive many calls every day asking us to restore or repair the screen (also known as the matrix, also known as the panel) after an impact. Definitely, if there was a hit on the screen, or pressure on the screen, or the TV fell, then 99.9% of the screen is broken. Even if cracks and fragments are invisible from the outside. The design of the matrix is such that the outside is covered with a special polarizing film, which does not allow cracks to be seen from the outside, and at the same time protects the user from injury. It is impossible to restore a matrix damaged in this way. In other words, it is no longer recreational. In this case, there is only one way - replacing the LCD, LED or LCD matrix with a whole one.
Is it possible to repair the matrix if water or other liquids get on it?
In some cases it is possible. When water gets on the electrical lines and contacts of the TV matrix, a galvanic reaction occurs. This triggers the processes of corrosion and dissolution of current-carrying tracks; short circuits also often occur in different circuits and this can ultimately lead to the destruction of chips on the matrix. If water gets on the screen and flows down it, or any other liquid gets inside the TV, even a small amount. Unplug the TV from the electrical outlet as quickly as possible and contact a matrix specialist. Don’t delay repairs; various liquids will sooner or later dissolve some of the matrix’s current-carrying paths. The faster the restoration is carried out correctly, the greater the chance of saving and restoring your screen.
What to do if the LCD, LED or LCD TV matrix is cracked or broken?
The matrix of an LCD, LED or LCD TV is very fragile and can easily be damaged or broken if pressed or hit. In some cases, the image on such a TV is partially or completely missing. It is impossible to restore a matrix damaged by pressure or impact. In this case, it is only possible to replace the LCD, LED or LCD matrix with a whole one.
How to change the matrix (display) of a TV?
You can replace your TV matrix with us. We do not recommend changing the matrix yourself, not because we are afraid of losing you as an installation client. This is simply done in order to prevent its damage due to incorrect, illiterate connection. Different types of matrices have a different supply voltage, the location of the power pins in the connectors also varies from type to type of matrix. Also, different matrix models use different positions of color bits in LVDS streams and other tricks invented by TV manufacturers. In this regard, you often have to resort to changing settings in the service menu of televisions, accessible only to specialists.
Where to buy an LCD matrix for a TV?
Matrices are most often out of stock. Usually supplied to order. Therefore, they can rarely be put up for sale anywhere. If you do find a matrix on sale for your device, then you are in luck. However, it will be very difficult for the user himself to check not only the functionality, but also to make sure whether it is new or not, since the matrix does not work separately without the modules located in the TV. And, obviously, its quality and performance are in question, and there is a risk of acquiring a useless item. When you purchase a matrix with installation, this danger disappears. You see a working TV!
What is the cost of the LCD matrix if we replace it?
LCD panels are not cheap spare parts, so they are supplied to order, specifically for your TV. Rather, you will need an advance payment when ordering a matrix. Replacing an LCD matrix is difficult even for specialists; you need to know the type of matrix and how to connect it, supply voltage and other technical details. Therefore, we do not recommend changing the matrix yourself, since you can not only damage it, but, most likely, without knowledge of connection, and, often, programming, you will not be able to make it work.
Attention! We do not sell liquid crystal matrices for self-replacement by users (due to the technical features described below when installing a new matrix).
Why don't we sell matrices separately to clients?
IMPORTANT! Users often think that replacing a matrix means simply unscrewing a few screws, removing the broken matrix, installing a new one, restoring all connections and... voila!!! And as they say, Life is Udalas. However, the manufacturer is working hard to complicate the process of restoring a TV with a damaged screen. In addition to the uniqueness of the matrices, the manufacturer has developed various obstacles in certain models. Even the same TV model, depending on the batch of goods, may have several different matrix variations. And these variations are not interchangeable!!! Depending on the matrix type, the TV must be programmed for a specific matrix option after its mechanical matching. How will the client carry out programming if, with God's help, he was able to successfully install the matrix without damaging it mechanically? Naturally, for this reason we had to abandon sales of matrices without installation, because... Users cannot carry out programming on their own to avoid claims from buyers later.
Cost of replacing LCD TV matrix?
The cost of repairs to replace the matrix depends on the TV model
IMPORTANT! Certain TV models have different types of matrices installed. Without the TV model, we will not be able to answer what matrix is installed in your TV model, and accordingly tell the cost of repairs. That's why we ask you for your TV model number.
