SteelSeries Apex 7 Red Switch Black USB
Rating: 4.9
A distinctive feature of this keyboard is the minimum number of unnecessary elements. The user has 104 keys, two additional buttons and a volume control wheel. That's all! But, of course, this does not mean the absence of additional functionality. To call it, use a series of keys F1-F12, as is implemented, for example, in laptops. For example, this way you can change the backlight mode.
As you already understand, the buyer will find not only a QWERTY keyboard, but also a numeric keypad. As for the above-mentioned backlight, it has a zone setting. This means that each key can have its own backlight color. In this case, the keyboard can be guided by the running game or the user’s wishes.
A USB interface is used to connect the accessory to a computer. The cord length is 1.9 m, which is quite enough. It should be noted that there is no braiding - with such a price tag it looks strange. There are two connectors at the end of the cable. This is due to the fact that the device itself also has a corresponding port - it can be used to connect, for example, a USB drive. But don’t expect high speeds - the connector complies with the USB 2.0 standard. As for the materials from which the keyboard body is made, the manufacturer made its choice in favor of plastic and aluminum. The device looks and feels expensive, you can’t argue with that. It is also complemented by a removable palm rest, attached with magnets. You can learn more about the appearance and functions of the keyboard by reading the SteelSeries Apex 7 review on the Overclockers website.
As mentioned above, this model has different types of backlighting. Their selection is carried out in the on-screen menu, to call which you need to hold the corresponding button for three seconds. But get ready for the fact that it will be in English - translation into the great and mighty is not provided. Unlike the interface of a proprietary application, where even more various settings are available. It should also be noted that the keyboard supports macro recording.
If we talk about shortcomings, then you have to look for them under a magnifying glass. The biggest one must be the high cost. Not everyone will be happy with the relatively cheap plastic from which the keycaps are made - the manufacturer could easily opt for something more expensive. As for the lack of additional buttons, we will not add this item to the list of shortcomings, since they often only take up space.
Advantages
- Volume level adjustment available;
- RGB backlight is used;
- Built-in USB extension cable;
- Optimal key travel;
- The cable is a decent length;
- There is a magnetic wrist rest;
- The body is made of aircraft grade aluminum;
- The additional button has an OLED display.
Flaws
- Very high cost;
- I would like the keycaps to be made of more expensive plastic;
- The keyboard has a slow USB port.
Logitech G G915 TKL Carbon
Rating: 4.9
This model can safely be called unique, which is why it costs a lot of money. Let's start with the fact that this is a rare case when a mechanical keyboard is wireless. Not only that, it also supports two communication standards! In the first, it is connected to a computer, the USB port of which must have a corresponding receiver installed. In this operating mode, the response time is only 1 ms, which will especially appeal to gamers. The second communication standard is the familiar Bluetooth. Its support allows you to connect the Logitech G915 TKL to your smartphone, tablet and many TVs equipped with Smart TV function. The transition from one standard to another is accomplished by pressing just one button.
This model has a very short key travel - it does not exceed 2.7 mm. It should be noted that different countries use different switches. In the case of Russia, they are similar to Cherry MX. When pressed, you will hear a loud click. Some people won't like this, as using the keyboard may wake up the person sleeping next to you. But when typing, this implementation of switches plays only a positive role - you always feel that a click has occurred. By the way, the resource of each key is 50 million keystrokes. A force of 50 grams is required to operate. You can read more about the feeling of using the keyboard in the article published on 4frag.
The body of this model is made of high-quality plastic with a carbon coating. At the same time, there is an even more expensive version of the keyboard with a housing made of brushed aluminum. Otherwise, these options are no different from each other. They both don't have a number pad, and they both have RGB lighting. I'm glad that the compact size of the accessory did not force the manufacturer to abandon additional keys. The device allows you to quickly change the backlight brightness level, as well as use the functions of the music player. There is also a volume control wheel. And in a special application you can assign certain functions to a number of F-keys. You won't be able to do this trick with other keys - this is the most serious limitation of the proprietary software. It can also confuse you when setting up the backlight in detail.
The main distinguishing feature of the Logitech G G915 TKL is the ability to operate on a built-in battery. Its full charge lasts for 30-40 hours, depending on the type of backlight turned on and its brightness. A micro-USB connector is used to charge the accessory. Why such an expensive keyboard doesn’t have USB Type-C is a mystery.
Advantages
- Standard sizes for most keys;
- Uses highly customizable RGB lighting;
- Very low key travel;
- There are additional buttons;
- Minimum response time;
- You can switch to Bluetooth connection;
- Comes with a fairly long cable;
- Modest dimensions and weight.
Flaws
- A micro-USB connector is used;
- The loud clicking of the switches won't suit everyone;
- The proprietary software has a number of shortcomings.
HyperX Alloy FPS Pro (Cherry MX Red)
Rating: 4.8
This is one of the smallest mechanical keyboards. The manufacturer managed to achieve such a modest size by completely eliminating additional buttons. This will make some people sad. Other people will breathe a sigh of relief as this will free up space on their computer desk. Also, the creators of HyperX Alloy FPS Pro did not endow their creation with a digital block. They rightly considered that gamers practically do not use it.
In total, the 900-gram device includes 87 keys. Among them you can find Fn, which is necessary in such conditions. Its cap, like all other keys, is made of ABS plastic. As you might guess, pressing it together with one or another F-key will call a certain function. The corresponding settings are carried out in proprietary software. As an example, let's use the combination Fn+F6: it will force the music player to switch to the previous track.
Cherry MX Red switches are hidden under the keycaps. They have no click or feedback. It's not the best choice for typing, but gamers will be delighted. The stroke before activation is only 2 mm. The total key travel is exactly twice as large. The declared resource is 50 million clicks. As for the backlight, it is single-color.
This keyboard connects to your computer via a standard USB interface. The complete cable has a fabric braid, made in red and black colors. It is connected to the keyboard via a mini-USB connector. The ability to detach it will appeal to those who plan to take the device somewhere with them. This also allows you to replace the wire without any problems if it suddenly gets damaged. Its length is 1.8 m. It is a pity that the manufacturer does not include a case. This was also included among the shortcomings by the authors, published on the 4frag website.
The keyboard has a solid design. As mentioned above, all keys are almost silent. With one exception. "Space" has some problems with stabilizers - over time they begin to creak. Many buyers wrote about this, including Efendi. But he concluded his review on Yandex.Market as follows: “It’s a very cool thing, you don’t have to doubt it. Fantastic design, very good construction. It stays confidently on the table due to the rubber inserts along the edges at the back.”
Advantages
- The keyboard turned out to be almost silent;
- Supplied with a long fabric-braided cable;
- The wire can be disconnected;
- The body is made of metal;
- The keyboard is compact and relatively lightweight;
- Does not slip on the table;
- There is backlighting of the keys.
Flaws
- Additional buttons would be nice;
- The backlight is only red;
- Not the best stabilizers on the gap.
HyperX Alloy Origins Core Black USB
Rating: 4.7
Many mechanical keyboards do not have a number pad. HyperX Alloy Origins Core does not have it either. Why spend money on extra switches when gamers don't typically use a number pad? And this model has a gaming purpose. This is evidenced at least by the RGB backlight, shining here with all the colors of the rainbow. However, the keyboard should also appeal to those who have to type large amounts of text. The fact is that the key travel here is only 1.8 mm. Therefore, a very short period of time is spent typing each letter. The only thing that can confuse you is the lack of feedback. This is due to the use of HyperX Red switches here.
This model is another case where the keyboard does not have unnecessary elements. Additional buttons, volume control wheel - this is not about HyperX Alloy Origins Core. Due to this, the accessory turned out to be very compact, and its weight does not exceed 900 g. But do not think that this model provides only basic functionality. Like many other mechanical brethren, it has an Fn key. When it is pressed simultaneously with any of the keys in the F1-F12 row, one or another action is performed. For example, by default, the Fn+F7 combination pauses the playback of a music track. In proprietary software, all functions can be reassigned. You can also change the backlight color. There are, of course, many options to choose from, including a variety of effects available.
If we talk about the layout, it is close to the standard one. Only the one-story Enter is slightly confusing. The connection to the computer is carried out using a cable, the length of which is 1.8 m. What is important is that it itself is detachable. The keyboard uses modern USB Type-C as a connector. It is also impossible not to note the body of the device - it is made of aircraft-grade aluminum. This makes me literally admire this model. It’s not for nothing that a certain Alexey left the following review on Yandex.Market: “The keyboard is amazing. Very pleasant to the touch and pleasant key travel. Thank you, HyperX, for a cool device."
This model has no particular disadvantages. Even the authors on Overclockers couldn’t figure out what to complain about. Perhaps the only thing missing here are PBT keycaps. However, only much more expensive models are equipped with them.
Advantages
- RGB backlight is used;
- Has a detachable cable;
- The body is made of aluminum;
- Built-in USB Type-C connector;
- Short key travel;
- Behaves almost silently;
- Modest size and weight.
Flaws
- The software turned out to be not particularly functional;
- I would like to have additional buttons.
Logitech G Pro
Rating: 4.6
As you know, the Logitech G gaming series includes a variety of devices. In particular, headphones and computer mice are in great demand. You can also find the Logitech G Pro keyboard on store shelves. As you already understood, it is mechanical. Romer-G switches are used here as switches. They cannot be called silent - each press causes a clearly noticeable click. But it should appeal to anyone who needs to type a lot of text. With this key implementation, false presses are practically eliminated. Gamers will appreciate the Logitech G Pro due to its low latency and small key travel - it is only 3 mm. This means that a few fractions of a second will pass from pressing to action on the screen.
Many modern keyboards allow you to disconnect their wire. This is made for more convenient transportation. The Logitech G Pro also has a similar design. It should be noted that the supplied cable is quite long. It also turned out to be flexible and durable. In a word, replacement is definitely not needed. This is even stated by the authors, published on the rtings website, which compares different techniques.
Most mechanical keyboards with a similar price tag suffer from the lack of additional buttons. This model is not that case. However, there is no particular abundance of them here. In total, two additional buttons are available to the user. The first switches the device to gaming mode. The second is used to change the brightness level of the backlight. By the way, it is implemented here using RGB technology. Therefore, in the appropriate program you can set each key its own color. Or achieve this or that effect. Or even use the profile created by the developers of your favorite game.
Unfortunately, the software is the main problem with the Logitech G Pro. If you start seriously tinkering with the settings, you quickly realize that the application is poorly thought out. This situation has been observed for several years, so it is unlikely that anything will change with the coming updates.
This model also has another serious drawback. If the backlight is turned off, you will not see the characters printed on the keys, with the exception of additional ones. Also, at some time, there was a version of this keyboard on sale, in which only Latin letters were illuminated. Fortunately, the Cyrillic alphabet is now clearly visible.
Advantages
- A fabric braided cable is used;
- The wire is removable;
- A standard layout has been implemented;
- Optimal key travel;
- There are two additional buttons;
- Not very large in size and weight;
- RGB lighting is used.
Flaws
- There are copies with no Cyrillic alphabet;
- The glossy surface gets dirty easily;
- Clicky switches won't suit everyone;
- Not the best software implementation.
Bloody B820R (Red Switches)
Rating: 4.5
Like many other mechanical keyboards, this one makes typing more comfortable. How could it be otherwise, if the device boasts only 3 mm of key travel and a decent tactile response? It is also impossible not to note the presence of a digital unit here, which manufacturers began to abandon for the sake of compactness. It is useful if the keyboard is purchased for any work related to entering numbers. It is noteworthy that even in this design the accessory turned out to be not particularly large and heavy. The lack of additional buttons here is noticeable. Alas, adjusting volume levels and calling some functions are associated with certain problems - to do this you will have to hold down Fn and another key.
If we talk about the layout, the Bloody B820R does not cause any particular complaints. You can only criticize the manufacturer for the one-story Enter. But this key is wide, so you will quickly get used to pressing it blindly.
Connection to the computer is carried out using a traditional USB cable with a fabric braid. Its length is 1.9 m - we don’t need more. The keyboard body is made of two materials. The top is made of brushed aluminum, while the sides and bottom are plastic. Interestingly, the kit includes additional keycaps for gamers. They are made of silicone and painted orange. It is recommended to install them if you actively play online shooters - such keys will remain in perfect condition for many years.
We probably have no complaints about the build quality of the keyboard. Like the authors on ITC.ua. The only thing I can find fault with here is the implementation of RGB backlighting. Since this model was supposed to be relatively inexpensive, it received a serious limitation. Only six color options await you. Configuration is carried out in the KeyDominator2 application. It will also allow you to reassign the keys. The list of its capabilities also includes recording macros.
It remains to add that there are two versions of the Bloody B820R on sale, differing in the switches used. Linear LK2 Red will appeal to gamers and those who are going to work on a computer next to a sleeping person - they are almost completely silent. But if you want tactile feedback and an audible click, then it's better to consider buying a keyboard with LK2 Blue switches. Be that as it may, the travel before actuation for both types of switches is no more than 1.8 mm. The required force is 40 g. All this contributes to typing large amounts of text in a short period of time without any fatigue.
Advantages
- Not very high cost;
- Comes with additional game keycaps;
- The long wire has a fabric braid;
- There are versions with different switches;
- Calm design;
- There is an Fn key;
- Not very large key travel.
Flaws
- No additional buttons;
- The cable cannot be disconnected;
- Only six RGB lighting options;
- The Latin font cannot be called intuitive;
- Only part of the body is made of metal;
- The keys have noticeable play in the horizontal plane.
Logitech G G413 Carbon USB
Rating: 4.4
The American company Logitech is well known to most computer owners. It produces high-quality peripherals, including those intended for gamers. The Logitech G413 keyboard can also be called a gaming keyboard. It is wired. To connect to a PC, the usual USB interface is used here. It is needed not only to transmit signals from the installed keys, but also to power them - a fairly bright backlight is implemented here.
The keyboard body is made of aluminum-magnesium alloy. On the back side there are special legs that allow you to adjust the height of the accessory. It is also impossible not to note the fact that the device does not slide on the table even during the most active gaming battles.
The length of the wire used by this keyboard is 1.8 m. There are no complaints about the quality of its manufacture. This is good, because the cable is non-removable - it will not be possible to replace it without special skills.
Despite the modest design, the accessory turned out to be quite heavy. The scales under it will show 1105 g. And this is in the complete absence of additional buttons here! The weight must have been added by the number pad, which the manufacturer got rid of when creating its more expensive keyboards.
Power-G switches are used here. The key travel does not exceed 3.2 mm, which is especially useful when typing large amounts of text. It should be noted that the switches involved belong to the budget segment. Because of this, they suffer from insecurity. It is possible that after some time the double-click will begin to appear. This is confirmed by numerous reviews. That is why we recommend buying some other keyboard from those discussed in this article, even if you have to spend a more significant amount.
If we talk about first impressions, then you can count on what is described in Overclockers. Its authors praised the device for its successful layout with a double-decker Enter key, the presence of a built-in USB connector for other peripherals, and excellent stabilization of all long keys. The only thing that confused them was the lighting. It is made in red, while almost all competitors have now switched to RGB.
Advantages
- There is a USB hub;
- The brightness of the backlight can be adjusted;
- The long cable is of high quality;
- Not very large key travel;
- The body is made of metal;
- Height adjustment available;
- The keycaps are made of pleasant ABS plastic.
Flaws
- There are no additional buttons;
- Single-color backlight is used;
- Built-in unreliable switches;
- The keyboard turned out to be quite heavy.
Redragon Devarajas
Rating: 4.3
For a long time, the Redragon brand was known only to residents of Asian countries. It was founded here back in 1996. But relatively recently, this manufacturer decided to enter other markets. Now the mechanical keyboard Redragon Devarajas can be easily found on the shelves of Russian stores. And this is a full-fledged Russified copy - on the keys there is not only the Latin alphabet, but also the familiar Cyrillic alphabet.
This model has a relatively low cost, and in many respects it is not inferior to much more famous competitors. For example, high-quality OUTEMNU TEA mechanical switches are used here. Their service life is at least 50 million clicks. The keyboard also features excellent RGB backlighting. What is important is that there is no light between the keys, as happens with some competitors. As a result, the accessory has a nice appearance. He also got legs, thanks to which the keyboard can be tilted. This can be useful when using the device for a long time, for example, when typing a large amount of text.
Redragon Devarajas provides a total of 104 keys. If we take into account the presence of a digital block, this allows us to understand that the accessory did not receive additional buttons. Their role here is played by the F1-F12 row, which must be used together with the Fn key held down. Reassignment of functions is carried out in a special application, which will not be difficult to understand.
To connect the keyboard, you use the usual USB cable, the length of which is 1.8 m. As for the device itself, its weight reaches 1.2 kg, and its body is made of anodized aluminum. Redragon Devarajas has a low key travel. Gamers will like the fact that the switches used here do not produce any unnecessary sounds. While gaming or typing, you will only hear the sound of the keycaps hitting the aluminum surface of the product. And even then only if you press the keys all the way. This is confirmed by published on the AnandTech website. It is not surprising that Ruslan Vakhabov left the following review on Yandex.Market: “Excellent keyboard, very comfortable. My first mechanics, it feels like space. After it, it’s disgusting to use membrane ones. Convenient for both printing and gaming.” The buyer also noted the fact that this model is cheaper than competitors' products. It is quite possible that such a price tag was achieved only by abandoning the much more expensive Cherry switches.
Advantages
- The keyboard is almost silent;
- RGB backlight is used;
- Not very high cost;
- Long service life of switches;
- Doesn't slip on the table.
Flaws
- The keyboard turned out to be too heavy;
- The wire is not removable;
- No additional buttons;
- Enter is single-story.
Bloody B875N
Rating: 4.2
One of the most unusual keyboards among those belonging to the mechanical type. The fact is that it has a wrist rest with a unique design. This is also a rare case when a manufacturer has equipped the left and right parts of its product with separate LED strips shining in all the colors of the rainbow. As a result, the keyboard looks perfect on any gaming desk, also equipped with RGB backlighting.
The keys themselves can also be illuminated in different colors. The exact effect you need is selected in a special application. Buyers like this implementation of the design. This is evidenced, for example, by a review from a buyer of the DNS online store: “The first one out of gaming is so cool. It is tactilely pleasant to play on it and work with text. The backlight is beautiful, it doesn’t hurt your eyes. Neat keyboard. It’s obvious that it’s reliable.” However, most buyers still noted the fact that there are only two effects to choose from - a rainbow and a regular glow. This is the main drawback of this model. Competitors offer each key a different color, but nothing like that has been implemented here.
The optical switches located here are ready to withstand up to 100 million clicks. It is also impossible not to note the response time, which does not exceed 0.2 ms - this will especially appeal to gamers. As for the stroke, it is the usual 3 mm - competitors in this price segment offer a similar figure. But they do not offer moisture protection. However, we would not recommend trying it in practice. Even the manufacturer himself says that, first of all, the special coating protects the insides from moist air - water spilled on the keyboard can still harm the device.
As for the layout, it is close to the standard one. The only difference is the one-story Enter. All wide keys here are complemented by a reinforced stabilizer. In short, this keyboard does not make any unnecessary sounds.
Advantages
- Implemented RGB backlighting;
- There are two additional buttons;
- Minimum response time;
- There is a wrist rest;
- There is some moisture protection;
- Long service life of switches;
- Long and high quality wire.
Flaws
- The font used requires some getting used to;
- Only two backlight modes;
- A volume control wheel would be nice;
- One-story Enter will not suit everyone;
- The wire is not removable.
OKLICK 969G SHOTGUN Black USB
Rating: 4.1
You might be under the impression that all mechanical keyboards cost a lot of money. Fortunately, this is not the case. OKLICK 969G SHOTGUN can be purchased for only 2000 rubles. Moreover, it is even equipped with colored lighting! Moreover, the manufacturer was generous with the metal case. As a result, the accessory is not only durable, but also weighty. And this is important, because during particularly active gaming sessions, a regular keyboard always slides across the table. Here such a situation is almost completely excluded.
It should be noted that the manufacturer still had to save money. This becomes clear after you start using the device. While expensive mechanical keyboards use backlighting that allows you to choose absolutely any color, here only six options are available. In total, the buyer is provided with ten variations of operating modes. Also, the creators of OKLICK 969G SHOTGUN abandoned the digital block. This, however, cannot be considered a disadvantage - not all people actively use it, and the free space on the table is unlikely to be superfluous.
The device is based on the so-called blue Cherry switches. This leads to its main drawback. The keyboard is noisy - each press produces a clearly noticeable click. Gamers won't like this, but when typing it can be considered a plus. It is curious that the connection to the computer is carried out using a cable that has a fabric braid - this is something that many much more expensive competitors cannot boast of. However, you can still find fault with the wire - it is only 1.5 meters long.
This keyboard has uneven backlighting. The top rows are illuminated brightly, even too much. The bottom row has some problem. However, this does not apply to all copies.
Otherwise, this is a typical inexpensive keyboard. Most of all, the buyer will not like the complete absence of additional buttons. But there is an Fn key here. This means that pressing it together with one or another key from the top row will definitely cause a certain action. For example, Fn+F8 will cause the music player to switch to the next track. And the combination Fn+F4 will turn off the sound.
Finally, let’s give an example of a review from one of the happy customers, published by the DNS online store: “I first saw this keyboard in a computer club, I liked it. To be honest, I thought it was more expensive. All functionality specified in the specifications is present. The best among all other budget options."
Advantages
- Very low cost;
- The cable has a fabric braid;
- Modest size and weight;
- Multi-colored lighting is used;
- The body is made of metal;
- The key travel is not too long.
Flaws
- The keyboard was noisy;
- The keycaps are not installed level;
- Not everyone will like the font on the keys;
- Not a very long cable;
- There are no additional buttons;
- It is impossible to achieve the same color for all keys.
What to look for when choosing a mechanical keyboard?
Note! All mechanical keyboards contain key switches with a metal spring and metal contacts.
It is the quality of the switches and a number of related parameters that you should focus on when choosing first :
- Switch type. Mechanical switches are distinguished not only by manufacturers and models, but also by the color of the base of the product. For example, green and blue are so-called clicky, brown and transparent are tactile, black and red are linear. Each variety has its own characteristics, pros and cons.
- Response speed. Directly depends on the type of mechanism. “Gamer” with a linear stroke is faster, “failing” for printing at a lower speed. Mechanical switches, regardless of type, usually have an actuation moment somewhere in the middle of the stroke.
- Keyboard housing. Determines the appearance, affects the sound of the buttons during operation and the backlighting capabilities. The ease of use of the keyboard depends on the type and design of the case.
- Backlight. Its presence makes it possible to use the keyboard in low light. There are several types of backlighting, the most spectacular of which is RGB backlighting.
- Additional features. This includes connection interfaces, software support, internal memory, and a removable cable. Complete accessories, such as a palm rest, additional keycaps, etc., increase the ease of use of the keyboard.
Design
In terms of design features, mechanical keyboards are not particularly different from all others and the same general recommendations for selection apply here. It’s worth highlighting a couple of nuances. Firstly, the number of keys - many are used to using full-length 102-key keyboards, but rarely does anyone actually use the number group. Reducing the number of keys due to this very digital group allows you to slightly reduce the price of the “mechanics”.
And lastly, be careful with metal frameless keyboards equipped with blue switches: the base of such models often begins to resonate during active work, and the sound can be very unattractive.

Pros and cons of devices
The separate operation of the buttons with a separate mechanism in each creates certain advantages and disadvantages.
Keep in mind! The advantages of mechanical keyboards are:
- there is no need to “press” the keys all the way for clear operation;
- are distinguished by an increased resource of clicks - 50 million or more;
- the keys have a smoother stroke;
- The keyboard is easy to care for.
Minuses:
- make more noise;
- are quite expensive.
What are the advantages and disadvantages
Mechanical keyboards allow you to type faster, more accurately, and are more suitable for long periods of work. But, like any other devices, they have both strengths and weaknesses.
Advantages
- Tactile response. The main advantage of mechanical keyboards. Pressing the keys is clearly felt and does not require effort. This property is difficult to overestimate when typing texts and during games, when you have to press the keys quickly and often.
- Softness and smoothness. When entering, you do not need to completely recess the buttons; just press them a little, and with some switches, barely touch them at all. This removes excess stress from the hands and reduces their fatigue.
- Registration of parallel clicks. All mechanical keyboards support six keystrokes at once, and some models can record an unlimited number of keystrokes. This is of no use to ordinary users, but it is very important for gamers.
- Durability. Due to their design features and high-quality materials, mechanical keyboards are not subject to wear. Even after decades, the keys will be pressed as easily and clearly as on the day of purchase.
- Heavy weight. The use of metal frames and a large number of parts makes mechanical keyboards quite heavy, so accidental movements during operation are practically excluded.
- Easy to care for. Thanks to the removable keycaps, the keyboard is very easy to disassemble and clean.
Flaws
- High price. Due to expensive switches and high-quality materials, mechanical keyboards in general are not cheap. The cost of basic models of famous brands starts from 6,000 rubles, more advanced versions will cost 15,000 rubles and more.
- Noise from the keys. Depending on the switches used, the volume of sounds produced by the keyboard varies, but even the quietest switches will be louder than their membrane counterparts.
- Heavy weight. It can be both an advantage and a disadvantage. On the one hand, it’s good that the keyboard does not move around the table, on the other hand, carrying it with you will be problematic.

TOP 5 best mechanical keyboards in 2021
The expanses of the Amazon website are like the flow of the distant Amazon - it’s so easy for an unprepared user to drown in the flow of offers and goods. And it’s even easier to buy something that’s not exactly what you’d like. It’s best, of course, to go straight to the manufacturer’s official websites, having previously “smoked the manual”, but it is in the vastness of one of the largest rivers on the Internet that you can find worthwhile offers. In the meantime, let’s look at the most interesting and noteworthy models of mechanical gaming keyboards. This, by the way, is not top and the devices are located purely in “nominations”.
Best all-around mechanical keyboard - Logitech G910 Orion Spectrum
The best station wagon model
The first and most noticeable detail for the review (but we still had to get to the bottom of it) are the Romer-G switches, supplied by Logitech, apparently to quickly get rid of the yoke of Cherry, there is no other logical explanation. They feel like the MX Black version of their competitor. In general, everything is satisfactory - every click works, it’s quite difficult to miss, the tactile sensations are pleasant.
The second detail is the lighting. As many as 16.8 million shades (although recently, backlighting with less than 15 million has come to be considered a sign of bad taste). The light produces a pleasant light, although many will probably find it not bright enough due to the stencils on the keys. They here evoke thoughts of “Transformers” and, frankly speaking, were made for an amateur. Those who like minimalism are unlikely to appreciate it.
A smartphone is also attached to the keyboard, synchronizing with the ARX Control application. The features are not useful to everyone; the most valuable is displaying information about the PC’s state on the display.
The multimedia keys, as in many models, will personally remain idle for me - they are located a bit far away (and it’s good that they don’t get in the way). They also put a scroll wheel right above the number pad, and you need to have very thin and small fingers to use it comfortably. In general, with additional buttons, as with many manufacturers, everything is not so great.
The keyboard is comfortable - there is a stand for brushes, made more or less well. The hand on it does not get tired and does not go numb.

Best Backlit Mechanical Keyboard - ASUS (STRIX TACTIC PRO)
Best software
Another interesting model, this time from Asus, not the hegemon of gaming devices, but a manufacturer that has established itself as a supplier of budget products of decent design, functionality and quality.
The curved, bowl-shaped design of the keyboard immediately catches your eye - it looks comfortable. In fact, it doesn't make any significant changes. It is only possible that the first row of keys, which protrudes higher than the next ones, will cause discomfort until you get used to it.
The keyboard is equipped with MX Blue switches (and in general it is available in all varieties of this same MX), you can immediately feel it: compared to the same Orion Spark, the force applied is much greater.
The backlight here is amber, the design is minimalistic, as opposed to the previous candidate. Programmable keys will be enough even for those who use them very intensively.
The most delicious technical aspect is the N-Key Rollover technology. Remember when we talked about the big disadvantage of the USB interface, which limits the number of simultaneous presses? So, here this problem is completely eliminated - press with at least four hands, there will be a response. If your hands are shaking too much after a stormy corporate event, with a slight movement of your hand the mode for limiting simultaneous presses is activated.
The software, which allows you to literally create configs on the fly and flexibly switch between them, doesn’t let us down either. This is definitely a must-have item for online players.
Be especially careful with a curved design - indeed, the convenience is questionable and may, as they say, not take root. And a device smashed against a wall will remind you of wasted money for a long time.

Gaming mechanical keyboard - Roccat Ryos MK Glow ROC-12-761-BE
Best minimalist model
So we got to . Roccat Ryos MC Glow is one of the best minimalist models I have seen. There is also a convenient stand for brushes, and the number of keys is just right; there are no extra sliders and wheels getting in the way under your hands. In general, those who constantly come across various additional buttons/modules are in line for review!
Roccat's signature design didn't let us down either - blue backlighting of neat, classic-looking keys, and a modest set of visual effects. There are no millions of shades here, but there is no need for them either - the basic set, such as backlighting only the “game” keys, is enough.
It is standardly available in all varieties of Cherry MX, you can choose it according to your hand. Even very large hands will not feel cramped - there is exactly as much free space as there should be.
A significant disadvantage for many will be the lack of a number pad and groups of additional keys. Therefore, Roccat Ryos satisfies the gaming needs quite ascetically and without frills. Many, however, don’t need more.
For its price and compact appearance, the model looks attractive. I just want to say something like “it will pack into a bag without any problems and go with you to the International,” but the functionality is not enough for experienced players.

Best mechanical keyboard for gaming - Corsair Vengeance K70
Best Design
And now please skip the next few paragraphs for people who prefer to crunch cookies or do something more serious in front of the monitor. The design of the Corsair is open in the literal sense of the word - in the front row under the keys you can easily distinguish the switches, and small elements strive to fly into this opening. There are no more complaints about the design - if handled properly there will be no problems.
The corporate backlight is red. Brings back memories of Blackbeard’s notorious ship “Queen Anne’s Revenge”, recreated in one of the “Pirates of the Caribbean” films. Perhaps it was from him that the designers of the Corsair drew inspiration. The “game keys” here are textured and highlighted, which makes it easy to distinguish them by their surface texture. The brush stand is sharply inclined, which raises some doubts. Still, longer and more voluminous options look smoother and are more convenient to use.
The MX Red transmitter copes with its task quite well - no clicks are heard, the tactile sensations are quite pleasant.
Perhaps the remarkable pleasant elements end there. This, if you put aside the stylish design, is austere technical minimalism. Many will be put off by the lack of high-quality branded software, but if life is good without it and the lack of unnecessary features has become a habit, feel free to try it.

Best mechanical keyboard Razer BlackWidow Ultimate
The full-size wired model 2021 RZ03-01703600-R3R1 of the Razer BlackWidow Ultimate keyboard with 104 keys is a practical solution with high dustproof and waterproof characteristics ip54. The design is reliably protected from liquid ingress, which means that a cup of coffee accidentally turned over onto the surface will not cause much trouble.
Another advantage of a mechanical keyboard that connects via USB is the integration of Razer Mechanical Switches, which are proprietary switches that increase the number of operations up to 80 million times, which guarantees many years of service life without loss of original characteristics.
No less convenient is the presence of programmable keys with macro recordings 10 Key Roll-Over Anti-Ghosting, as well as function functions (Fn). A nice addition is also the individual “breathing” green backlight, and support for effects such as ripples, waves, etc.
Price: ₽ 8490
PS . I immediately realized that there was no point in recommending the hyped Razer Blackwidow or one of the Mad Catz variants. They are constantly heard, and the manufacturer much more often does not lie when describing the characteristics and “tricks” (although the author of the lines has many questions about “branded” models). It is much more valuable to choose quality rather than brand, and pay attention to models that are less popular among a wide audience. And if you still feel sophistication in the reader’s eye, welcome to our constantly updated catalog. Also, don't miss our review of the best wireless keyboards - this is in case you want comfortable gaming without any wires.
Whatever keyboard you use, good luck on the battlefields (or on the monthly reports, if you're stuck looking for a keyboard for work)!

The best mechanical keyboards
As part of this selection, mechanical keyboards costing from 3,000 to 10,000 rubles were taken into account. There are, of course, more budget options on the market that need to be treated with caution, and we will tell you about these options in a separate article. The same applies to the premium segment from 10,000 rubles or more.
For now, let's start with two keyboards from one of the leaders among budget mechanical keyboards.
Redragon Varuna
Find out the price
Redragon can be compared in many ways to the Xiaomi brand in the world of smartphones. The company offers quite budget devices for gamers and ordinary users while adhering to the high quality of selection of materials and visual design.
So, Varuna is a classic mechanical keyboard with OUTEMU switches and programmable RGB backlighting with brightness adjustment.
The manufacturer claims increased wear resistance of 50,000,000 clicks, a gold-plated USB connector, moisture protection, as well as the use of N-Key Rollover technology with support for simultaneous pressing of 104 keys, and WIN key locking technology, as well as the completely standard FULL ANTI-GHOST (random press).
Keycaps are made of plastic with a matte finish and an indentation for the finger. Nothing supernatural, but overall the quality is not in doubt.
The Redragon Varuna, as noted above, has Outemu Blue switches, which are structurally similar to the more famous and expensive Cherry MX Blue.
The switches operate quite smoothly, but individually it can be simply inconvenient to work with text, since the buttons themselves are quite high, especially when compared with membrane keyboards.
pros
- Build quality and materials;
- Beautiful and bright lighting;
- Functionality;
- Affordable price.
Minuses
- No brush stand;
- Very loud.
Redragon Hara
Find out the price
The second and final option from Redragon is the “Hara” mechanical keyboard with a wrist rest.
In many ways, “Hara” can be considered one of the most balanced options when searching for a keyboard under 3,000 rubles.
A fairly monolithic assembly, without significant creaks, play or any other extraneous elements.
The switches here are the same time-tested Chinese ones, “Outemu Blue” with the same durability of 50 million clicks.
The key stroke is confident, distinct and moderately loud (feels quieter than Varuna). Using the “touch typing method” is more than comfortable.
Unlike “Varuna”, it features 6-mode rainbow backlighting, including a mode that allows you to activate the backlight only for certain keys.
In general, it is problematic to make serious comments on this model. You can, if you wish, find fault with the way the rainbow backlight works, you can say that the font used is hard to read, you can say that the stand is not convenient.
All this can be voiced, but this is simply a matter of taste for each user.
pros
- Affordable price;
- Build quality and materials;
- Moderately heavy, does not slip on the table;
- Sufficient functionality.
Minuses
- Individually.
A4Tech Bloody B810R
Find out the price
"Bloody B810R" is an optical-mechanical wired keyboard that uses Light Strike technology with a response time of up to 0.2 milliseconds. The switches operate from a distance of 3 millimeters, which makes it possible to increase the speed of pressing.
The stated service life is 100,000,000 keystrokes, which is twice as long as keyboards from Redragon.
A distinctive feature of “Bloody” is the unusual and convenient placement of the Cyrillic layout on the same level as the main one, which can affect typing speed.
The "Space" key is further strengthened, but the "Enter" key is small in size, which again may take some getting used to.
Using the proprietary Russian-language utility “KeyDominator 2”, you can individualize the operation of the keyboard to suit your own needs using flexible profile settings. Or you can use the pre-installed 7 profiles.
You can also pay attention to the slightly more expensive A4Tech Bloody B820R keyboard.
pros
- High-quality assembly;
- Fast response;
- Ease of use and cleaning;
- Pleasant bright appearance;
- Braided cable;
- Availability of proprietary software.
Minuses
- The application of Russian letters is not very convenient for those who do not have touch typing skills.
Red Square Keyrox
Find out the price
Next, we will talk about this summer's new full-size mechanical gaming keyboard from Red Square in their new line, presented in the spring of 2021.
By the way, this material was typed using this keyboard, which proved itself more than worthy both for touch typing and in dynamic online shooters.
Very soon we will have a full review of Red Square Keyrox, where we will analyze every detail in detail and determine all the pros and cons of the new line.
For now about the main thing. The keyboard itself is quite weighty - more than 1.2 kg.
The design immediately catches the eye, since in addition to multi-colored lighting, the manufacturer decided to add color and made a bright red accent.
The switches here are Kailh RGB Red, which, as you know, are in many ways similar to Cherry MX Red, and have a uniform stroke without a pronounced tactile connection and a minimum pressing force of 40 grams.
Bright, unusual and functional.
pros
- Interesting and unusual design;
- Bright backlight;
- Decent price;
- Functionality.
Minuses
- In some modes, the backlight shines through the keycaps;
- There is no proprietary software yet (expected soon).
Logitech G G413 Carbon
Find out the price
The “Logitech G G413 Carbon” keyboard, compared to the above options, is a real monolith, which, if desired, can be used to play baseball/lapta or fight off robbers.
The case consists of an aluminum-magnesium alloy, which qualitatively increases durability and impact resistance.
Particularly pleasing is the delivery set, which includes not only the standard instructions and warranty card, as well as a key for removing the caps, but also 12 “spare” (or replaceable, as you like) caps with the most popular gaming keys (of course without the “Space” - these are numbers 1 to 5, and the buttons Q, W, E, R, A, S and D).
If “Varuna” or “Bloody” are bright representatives of the gaming industry, then the keyboard from Logitech is a strict professional device.
The user has only one lighting option at his disposal, which, in combination with the main black color of the body, demonstrates to others its style and conciseness.
As for the layout, here too the manufacturer went further and proposed a hybrid of schemes from ANSI and ISO standards - two long SHIFT keys + one double-row narrowed ENTER.
The switches here are Logitech Romer-G, from which a parallel can be drawn to Cherry MX Brown, with an activation/registration height of only 1.5 millimeters. Really great result.
There is a lot more that can be said about the Logitech G G413 Carbon, for example, about proprietary software, about the purpose of the pass-through USB port, about its functionality, but the fact remains that in its price category it is a practical standard that can and should be compared to to many.
pros
- Highest quality build and materials;
- Aluminium case;
- Functionality;
- Branded software;
- Availability of a USB port;
- Strict design;
- Comfortable use.
Minuses
- Optional. After several years of active use, some users complain about the appearance of double clicks. In practical experience with this model, this was not observed.
HyperX Alloy FPS ProBlack
Find out the price
“HyperX Alloy FPS ProBlack” is a mechanical keyboard for those for whom it is important to get a reliable and proven device for games with a minimalist design (without a number pad).
This model features the famous gaming classic CHERRY® MX switches with 3 brightness levels and 2mm actuation. Also here you can highlight a solid steel frame, a removable cable and a wealth of functionality.
For the most active gamers, 87 keys are available in the classic ANSI layout with long SHIFTs and single-level ENTER.
Laser-engraved plastic keycaps with a standard Cherry OEM profile hold pressure well. We would also like to mention the well-thought-out localization, since both the Latin and Cyrillic alphabet are equally visible regardless of lighting and time of day.
An excellent balanced option at an adequate price.
pros
- Stylish design;
- Thoughtful arrangement of keys;
- Relatively quiet;
- Bright backlight;
- Excellent build quality and selection of components.
Minuses
- No specialized software;
- Individually. Sometimes the backlight is too intrusive.
Razer Ornata Chroma
Find out the price
When talking about gaming devices, it’s hard to miss the rich assortment from Razer, which has conquered the industry with its external beauty and some non-standard technical solutions.
"Ornata Chroma" is a hybrid keyboard with Mecha-Membrane switches, allowing for a soft click, but with a pronounced tactile click characteristic of mechanics, a kind of imitation of Cherry MX Blue. This allows us to classify the keyboard as mechanical, albeit with some stretch.
Externally, the keyboard looks amazing. This is a strict dark design with a rough effect to the touch and without unnecessary visual elements, as well as a removable soft stand with a magnetic fastening system.
The presence of bright RGB backlighting is in many ways Razer’s calling card, and in this model it is implemented with the highest quality and taste.
For each key, you can customize the color scheme of the backlight, which, together with a soft and diffused general backing, and drawn boundaries between the keys, allows you to see all the contours without much effort.
pros
- Made stylishly and tastefully;
- High quality material;
- An interesting working hybrid solution;
- Functional proprietary software;
- Bright, but not flashy lighting.
Minuses
- Lack of clear information about the wear resistance of hybrid switches;
- Still a little overpriced.

In our selection, the Corsair K68 is the heaviest with a weight of more than 1 kilogram and 400 grams. This model is made in the classic American layout, is full-size and offers 104 main keys, and also has a convenient removable palm rest.
The keyboard is equipped not only with moisture protection due to a special sealed membrane system, but also with IP32 dust protection.
The OEM profile is standard and does not need any special introduction, the only “Space” here is made with a relief surface, which is more of a visual element.
Painting and engraving of keycaps does not raise any questions - everything is uniform and smooth.
Separately, we can highlight the RGB backlight using a white reflective substrate, which made it possible to achieve a softly diffused glow - not flashy, but at the same time quite bright.
The keyboard works with proprietary Corsair Utility Engine software with an abundance of customizable capabilities, which is always a plus.
