How to choose a mirror DVR in terms of price/quality ratio?
When purchasing, pay attention to a number of key points indicating the functionality and quality of the device:
- Viewing angle . The best option is considered to be at least 120-140 degrees. If the indicator is higher, it is better to check the recording for the presence of a fish-eye effect, that is, distortion of the picture.
- Number of cameras. Most models are equipped with an external camera for parking monitoring. If it’s not there, then see if it’s possible to connect external cameras to the device; it won’t hurt.
- Shooting speed . To prevent the image from being torn and not taking up much space on the card, it is better to stick to the optimal shooting speed - 30 frames per second.

What is the fine for a dash cam mirror?
For violations of almost all items of the List of Faults, the norm of Part 1 of Article 12.5 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation is applied with a fine of 500 rubles or an administrative warning. But there is no traffic police fine for violating the Technical Regulations on mirrors in 2021. And that's what it all means!
- If the requirement of the List of Faults is violated, then the fine will be legal.
- If we are talking about a violation of the regulations, then there are no sanctions for failure to comply with its requirements.
Let's say you have a mirror-video recorder installed, however, there is actually no mirror in it. Instead, there is a rear view camera that displays the image on the canvas. In this case, you technically do not have an internal mirror and therefore you can be fined quite legally.
In addition, a violation that is subject to a fine would be a situation where, although there is a mirror, it is, for example, on the instrument panel, and not where it should hang. In all other cases, no penalties can be legally applied.

About design changes and cancellation of registration
However, there is an even harsher penalty than a fine. The fact is that the traffic police can stop registering a car on the grounds that changes have been made to its design without the permission of the traffic police.
This happens approximately according to the following scenario:
- A traffic police officer stops you on the road and detects a violation - instead of a rear-view mirror, a video recorder with a camera is installed, and in fact there is no mirror in it,
- on this basis, the inspector decides to issue a fine of 500 rubles under Part 1 of Article 12.5 of the Administrative Code,
- further wish you a good journey,
- however, after about a week or two, you receive a letter from the traffic police MREO at your registration address informing you that the registration of your car has been canceled due to a design change,
- in the same letter there is a proposal to provide the car for inspection to the specified traffic police department in good condition - that is, with its original mirror, and in this case the registration of the car is resumed.

- The viewing angle – diagonally should be at least 120 degrees, which will provide decent coverage.
- Frame rate – for the video to be smooth, without sudden changes in the picture, you must select a frame rate of more than 25 frames per second.
- A shock sensor that is triggered when another vehicle or other objects or people approach.
- Parking markings when the rear view camera is turned on - to increase convenience.
- Shooting at night.
If there is a built-in battery, it will remain operational for some time when the power is turned off.
