Do-it-yourself water ionizer - the experience of making it yourself from available items with a diagram

What is a living and dead water apparatus?

If you place two electrodes (anode and cathode) in ordinary water and apply electric current to them for 3-4 minutes, then the water molecules will be divided into hydrogen ions (H+) and hydroxide ions (OH-), that is, acidic and alkaline ions.
Around the anode, the water will be acidic (pH = 4-5), or “dead,” and around the cathode it will be alkaline (pH = 10-11), or “live.” These waters have another name: cathode and anode. I think you can guess where it is. If you install a semi-impermeable barrier between the electrodes (the proposed design uses a canvas bag), you can prevent the two waters from mixing.

“Living” water will be light, almost indistinguishable from ordinary water, it will have a mild alkaline taste. Within a few hours of cooking, a white precipitate (salt) will form at the bottom of the container.

“Dead” water has a yellow or even light brown tint, is sour in taste and smell (the smell resembles the smell of iodine), hydrogen and metal ions collect in it. No precipitate forms.

A generalized vision of the ionization technique under consideration

Creating a water ionizer with your own hands, of course, is impossible without a clear understanding of the basics of ionization technology. In addition, you should initially test the quality of tap water, which is supposed to be used for a homemade ionizer.

There are many liquid content testing kits on the market, however, the best way to conduct a water test is to contact a certified laboratory. The main reason for this approach (testing within the laboratory) is the accurate determination of the amount of oxygen dissolved in the liquid, plus an accurate determination of the “pH” parameter.

True, the “pH” value for the liquid under study can be determined directly at home using special (litmus) paper or using an electronic “pH” meter.

Household devices that electrolyze drinking water have been offered on the market for several years. Electrolyzers produce (separately) acidic and alkaline water (ionized). Also in practice there are other names for this type of water:

  • electrolyzed reduced,
  • alkaline-ionic,
  • electrolyzed cathode.

Acidic water is not suitable for drinking, but is successfully used for facial and hand hygiene and body care. Alkaline water, on the other hand, is suitable for drinking, so ionizer technology is considered in commercial and marketing literature primarily as useful in the treatment of:

  • gastrointestinal tract,
  • hypertension,
  • diabetes,
  • malignant tumors.

The recommendations contained in the instructions supplied with water ionization devices recommend drinking 1.5–2.0 liters of such a product, regardless of the age, gender and health status of the consumer.

One of the many models of water ionizer for home use, made at an industrial level. Meanwhile, it is quite affordable to make a water ionizer with your own hands from available parts

Perhaps the consumption of ionized drinking liquid is truly beneficial if it actually helps relieve symptoms in patients, complementing classical methods of treatment, as some distributors of ionizers claim.

However, there may be public health concerns if ionizers are capable of causing harmful side effects in otherwise healthy people or concealing illness in apparently healthy consumers.

Types of ionizers and characteristics of produced water

The market offers many types of more or less advanced water ionizers. Most of the ionizers are made in Japan, but no less technologically advanced water ionizers are also quickly filling the market:

  • U.S.A,
  • Canada,
  • Australia,
  • China.

The average annual sales of ionizers is more than 200,000 devices priced from $600 to $3000. Meanwhile, the inventors of this kind of device (developers of the technology) are Russian scientists from the 1900s.

Technological principle of separation/purification into components

All manufactured water ionizers are connected directly to the water supply. Filtration before the ionizer is carried out through at least one filter with activated carbon, which is necessary to reduce the level of chlorides in tap water (prevent damage to the electrolytic cell of the ionizer).

Block diagram of connecting a classic ionizer for the production of a final product purified from impurities: 1 – tap water; 2 – primary carbon filter; 3 – secondary ceramic filter; 4 – acidic pH = 4-6; 5 – alkaline pH = 8-10

The filtered liquid allows a minimum mineral content of 50 mg * l-1. These conditions are required to produce electrolysis in a working chamber with an anode and cathode, which are separated by a semi-permeable plastic-based diaphragm. Flat (mesh) electrodes are made of titanium coated with platinum. The electrolysis process produces acid and oxidized water at the anode.

Why do you need a water ionizer?

The quality of water that enters our body affects our well-being and health. Devices for water ionization are an indispensable assistant in our age of genetically modified products and neglected ecology. These devices help to “revive” the water entering our apartments through many kilometers of supply systems, improve its chemical composition for the better, increasing alkalinity. The pH of a liquid can be:

  • up to 7
    – an indicator characterizing an acidic environment, not saturated with oxygen;
  • exactly 7
    – neutral environment;
  • above 7
    is an alkaline environment, which is characterized by a high O2 content.

Properties of living (cathode) water

Water retains its healing properties for a maximum of 2 days. It must be stored in a closed glass container. It should not come into contact with metal. In general, it is better to prepare fresh water every day (if you have long-term treatment)

Living water helps activate the body's defenses. Works comprehensively, improving overall health:

— Is a powerful biostimulant, improves immunity;

— Stimulates the metabolic system, improves appetite, digestion and blood circulation, increases blood pressure in hypotensive patients;

Properties of dead water (anodic)

The properties of dead water can last up to 2 weeks. But it must be stored in a closed glass container.

— Unlike living water, dead water slows down the metabolic process.

- A powerful antiseptic! In terms of effectiveness, it can be compared with the effect of alcohol, iodine, and hydrogen peroxide. An excellent disinfectant!

— Excellent antiallergic, drying, anthelmintic, antipruritic and anti-inflammatory properties;

— When consumed orally, dead water reduces blood pressure in hypertensive patients and restores the flow area of blood vessels;

- Helps dissolve stones in the gall bladder, bile ducts, liver, kidneys.

— Joint pain is reduced;

— Some hypnotic effects have been noted. Therefore, it is not recommended to drink it while you are driving.

— Removes harmful substances from the body

— Restores the functioning of the sweat, salivary, sebaceous, lacrimal glands.

— Increases the impact of solar radiation, so you should not use it if you are going to be in the sun for a long time;

If you use living and dead water in combination, you must maintain an interval of at least an hour between doses.

I won’t bore you with theory any further; I’ll finally move on to a description of the apparatus for preparing living and dead water.

The benefits of ionized water

The effect of ionized water on the human body is being actively studied. Despite the fact that there are many skeptics among scientists, the healing properties of such a liquid are described in numerous articles. Ionized water, according to doctors, is useful not only when the above diseases already exist, but also for preventing them. In particular, its regular use is recommended for people with the following problems:

  • high blood sugar;
  • problems with blood circulation;
  • risk of liver disease;
  • hypertension or hypotension;
  • indigestion;
  • tendency to allergic reactions.

Research regarding the use of ionized water continues and serves as a counterbalance to skepticism and accusations of hydrotherapy theory as unscientific.

How to choose a water ionizer when purchasing

When choosing a water ionizer, you should consider important points that relate to:

  • service life;
  • warranty period;
  • Possibility of free servicing of the device;
  • manufacturer's reputation;
  • customer reviews about your favorite model.

Types of enriched liquid

As with many inventions, there are different opinions about the benefits of ionized water and its effects on the body. Manufacturers and distributors of devices insist on its exceptional properties and recommend using it in everyday life. Special healing properties are attributed to silver containers; they enrich water with ions of this precious metal. The result is a very clean and transparent liquid.

It is a known fact that silver belongs to the group of heavy metals. Admirers of silver water are well aware of this, so they emphasize that the concentration of silver ions should not be too high. Otherwise, such water will do more harm than good.

Water is divided into three categories according to the dosage of silver:

  1. Drinking water. It contains 30-40 µg/l of silver. It should be used for drinking, preparing various dishes and drinks, and home canning. This silver liquid is also suitable for household purposes and bathing.
  2. Water with a dosage of precious metal of 300-500 mcg/l. It is well suited for treating seeds before germination and planting. It is beneficial for watering flowers and washing fruits and vegetables. It is capable of disinfecting children's toys, dishes, any surfaces, and household items.
  3. Concentrate. In this type of liquid, the dosage of silver can be 10 thousand mcg/l. It is intended for external use only. Suitable for gargling or washing in the morning, you can also use it for inhalation.

The use of ionized water in cosmetology

Due to its high biological activity, skin treatment with ionized water is quite effective in the field of cosmetology:

  1. to improve the quality of nutritional functions;
  2. improving blood flow;
  3. eliminating external pollution;
  4. getting rid of sebum secretions;
  5. cleansing of makeup residues and dead epidermal cells.

Many cosmetics intended for facial and body skin care can cause discomfort when used due to the alcohol content, which has the properties of drying out the skin, and high-quality organic cosmetics can be expensive to purchase.

An alternative to lotions and gels is ionized water, which has a lot of useful qualities, including:

  • antiseptic effect;
  • restoration of natural balance;
  • eliminating irritation;
  • calming effect.

Daily use of ionized water, activated by electric current, has the beneficial properties of normalizing the functions of skin tissue, as a result of which the skin acquires firmness and elasticity.

In addition, it is recommended to use ionized water to avoid harmful irritations on the face after shaving, and for cuts, it will be useful to apply a tampon with medicinal liquid to the affected area.

How to make a living and dead water machine

The device operates on 220V AC mains. Direct current is needed to prepare water. Therefore, a powerful diode is installed in the power circuit of one of the electrodes. Two stainless steel electrodes are mounted on an insulating plexiglass base.

The length of the electrodes is different - for convenience during operation. On the short side there will be dead water, on the long side there will be living water.

To rectify the current, a diode designed for a current of 10A and a voltage of at least 250V is used. In this circuit, you can use Soviet diodes of the series (D245 - D247).

For safety, it is worth providing a protective cover for the top of the device, because All elements during operation will be under dangerous voltage of 220V!

To prepare water, you can use a jar with a capacity of 2 or 3 liters. Pour water into the jar, 70-80 percent. Leave room for the water that the filled bag will displace.

Now pour water into the bag and immerse it in the jar. The bag that is not covered with water should protrude 1-2 cm above the water level so that the waters do not mix.

Place the device into the jar. The long electrode is in a jar, and the short one is in a bag. Connect the device to the network.

Attention! Security measures!

From the moment the device is connected to a 220V network, DO NOT touch the diode, electrodes, water or other elements that can conduct electric current. Touching may result in electric shock.

There should be no children or animals nearby... You must not be distracted so as not to leave the device unattended!

The cooking time depends on the hardness of the water. A sign that the water is ready is the beginning of active bubbling of water around the electrodes (especially in the bag).

Disconnect the device from the network. And only after that!

Remove the device from the jar and immediately take out the bag. Pour the water from the bag into the prepared container.

Dry the bag and the device and put it out of the reach of children.

To calculate the optimal time for preparing living and dead water, I will offer you the following method:

Prepare water in 1.5 minutes. Look at the color of the finished dead water. It should be yellow (as in the photo below), maybe slightly brown. If everything is so, both waters are ready.

If the dead water is slightly yellow, add new water and repeat the whole process again, but now keep it for 3 minutes. If the dead water does not turn yellow, repeat the process, increasing the time to 5 minutes. In my practice, there was a case when, to prepare water, it was necessary to keep the device turned on for 9 minutes!

Details of a homemade water ionizer

The creator of a water ionizer will need two plastic containers with a capacity of 5 liters each. Two such containers actually provide separate chambers for the working electrodes.

How to make a device for water ionization with your own hands

In addition to the fact that there are many ready-made ionizers, you can create a mechanism for preparing ionized water yourself at home. In this case, it is necessary to purchase the following components of a homemade design:

  • two electrodes (graphite rods or stainless steel strips can be used);
  • a piece of fire hose as an electrical conductor;
  • glass container with nylon lid;
  • part of the cable with a plug.

The scheme for creating an ionizer is quite simple:

  1. sew up one end of the sleeve and place it in a container;
  2. fill the jar with drinking water approximately 2/3 of the total volume;
  3. Attach electrodes to the cord with a length of 10 cm per 0.5-liter jar;
  4. the resulting device with parallel electrical conductors assumes that the cathode is located inside and the anode is outside the hose.

In order not to confuse positive and negative charges, corresponding marks “+” and “-” are made on the outside of the device.

How to make a hydroionizer on silver

Regular consumption of water additionally enriched with silver ions kills pathogenic bacteria. The instructions describe in detail all the stages of making a home ionizer. You just need to connect any item made of silver to a plus. The minus should be connected to a power source.

Any silver item can purify water from pathogenic bacteria.

For the water to be enriched with silver to a drinking state, just 3 minutes of exposure is enough. To obtain a more concentrated version, the ionization process should be carried out for 7 minutes. Then the hydroionizer is turned off, the liquid is thoroughly mixed and kept for 4 hours in a dark place. After this time, silver water can be used for medicinal or household purposes.

Silver water should not be stored under the influence of light, as this will cause the silver to fall out in the form of flakes to the bottom of the container.

Everyone chooses for themselves what is more convenient for them: buy a ready-made device or make it with their own hands at home. The main thing is that such an ionizer allows you to get “living” as well as “dead” water and take care of yourself and your loved ones.

Ionizers based on electrolysis

Water ionizers based on electrolysis have gained great popularity. The filter of the device contains particles of silver, which ensures disinfection of the liquid, as well as removal of heavy metal salts. The device produces alkaline and acidic water, each of which contains substances beneficial to the body.

If you use a device containing silver to ionize water, you should take into account the degree of its concentration in the water:

  1. You can consume liquid with a silver concentration of no more than 30-40 mcg per liter.
  2. For washing dishes, children's toys, and food, it is useful to use water containing 300-500 micrograms of silver per liter.
  3. If the level of silver in water is 10,000 micrograms per liter it is considered a concentrate. This liquid is used for medicinal purposes only for external use.

What is an electrolyzer (ionizer or activator)? What is living and dead water?

Electrolyzers are often also called ionizers or water activators. But it would be more correct to call them electrolyzers, since this name reflects the essence of the processes occurring in the devices. In ionizers, water is divided into two - alkaline water with a pH greater than 8 and acidic water with a pH less than 6. Alkaline water in Russia is called “living” water, and acidic water is called “dead” water.

Water ionizer device

People have been thinking about improving water quality since ancient times. Complex, stuffed with electronics, and simple models of ionizers are used all over the world. By lowering an object made of a special metal into water, you can make the liquid “alive”; a silver water ionizer, which looks like a chain with a clothespin at one end, is built on this principle of operation. Experts are confident that silver ions can destroy pathogenic bacteria and make water healthy and tasty.
