How to fix a washing machine: device and principle of operation

The operating principle of the machine is quite simple. All automatic washing machines work on the same principle. They differ only in programs and design. The washing machine Indesit, Desna, Atlant automatic or any other model consists of 20 units.

The classic functions simply. First of all, water is drawn into the machine through the inlet valve, in the required volume. Then, as the water level set by the programmer regulator is reached, the valve closes. The next step is heating the water.

If the washer does not have a temperature sensor, the heater turns off the timer.

Then the engine begins to function in conjunction with the heater. However, it does not rotate at full power. At this moment, the drum is spinning at different time intervals in both directions. Next, the dirty water is removed using a pump and the drum is refilled. Then the electric motor turns on and the clothes are rinsed at low speed. Next, the electric motor is turned off, and water is pumped out again. And finally, the electric motor operates at full power: the laundry is wrung out. The pump is on throughout the entire wash cycle.

Which parts break more often?

Any automatic machine can fail. Each brand has its own weak points, which are the first to be affected by a breakdown. Turkish SMAs are no exception. Their problems are:

The washing program does not start. The control panel functions normally, the machine itself turns on, a mode is selected, but the start button does not respond to pressing.

The equipment freezes at the initial stage of washing. The user selects a mode, starts it, but after a while the machine stalls and does not respond to presses. The screen may display error code E07.

Powder and rinse aid remain in the detergent drawer. This problem often worries owners of Vestel SM. This is not due to water or blockages, but to the specific design of the unit.

DIY Vestel washing machine repair

Let's start with the most easily repaired breakdowns, moving on to more complex ones.

The program does not start

Users are confident that if the program crashes and the start button does not work, then the problem is definitely in the electronic module. Judge for yourself: the program selector works, the LEDs are on, programs are selected, but they cannot be launched. In every 4th car of the Turkish brand, the electronic door lock (UBL) fails, which is why the control module does not receive information that the hatch is locked and does not start the car. In this case, no fault codes are illuminated.

What the user sees from the outside: a closed hatch and a working panel, but the mode still does not turn on. In rare cases, the button itself is to blame (read about replacing it here), but usually the solution is simpler:

Turn off the equipment.
Let it sit for a while - 10-15 seconds.
Launch it.
If there is no result, repeat the steps.
The problem persists, rebooting doesn't help? Move on.

Unplug the machine and:

Open the hatch.
Armed with a Phillips screwdriver, twist the pair of fasteners that are located near the locking mechanism.

Remove the UBL.

Be carefull! There is a wiring to the device - do not break it.

Take a tester to measure the resistance at the contacts of the UBL sensor. A working thermistor will show 900 Ohms in a cold state. If the ohmmeter screen shows 0 or 1, the blocker is broken.

You are convinced that the program does not start for a trivial reason - because of the sensor. Replace the UBL and everything will return to normal. Video on replacing the blocker using the Vestel Aura model as an example:

But you shouldn’t undertake repairs at home of such a complex element as a control module - entrust the task to specialists, otherwise you risk the entire machine if something goes wrong. You will need not only an electrical circuit for the washing machine, but also certain tools and appropriate skills.

SMA freezes at the initial stage of the program

Self-repair is possible if the equipment is bothered by freezing during the initial stages of washing. This can happen in the first 5-10 minutes of the cycle or a couple of minutes before the end of the program. The behavior of the SMA may be strange: the drum does not stall at all, the user panel is working, the indicators are on, the screen displays the washing process, but the washing itself is not performed.

If code E07 lights up on the screen, proceed as follows:

Unplug the power cord. Wait half a minute and plug the plug into the outlet.
If the problem is resolved, the board has rebooted and the failure will not occur again.
Reboot didn't help? Turn off the washer and check that the installation is even. Installation on a crooked floor without level adjustment is the cause of failure.

UBL. Press the door tighter and, if the SM reacts to this, check the device in the same way as we wrote above.

Note! The first signs of problems with the sunroof will be jamming when opening. If you notice in time, you will avoid problems.

An incident is considered global after it is repeated several times and when code E07 is periodically displayed on the screen. This indicates an almost 100% failure of the electronics, which is not recommended to be repaired yourself.

There are funds left in the cuvette

Vestel machines can be washed without using special products poured into the powder receptacle. The main reason lies in the water supply valve.

Masters note that almost all machines, such as Vestel Bora and others, have defective valves. Moreover, defective parts do not appear from the first days of operation of the equipment - they can become a problem suddenly, for example, after the end of the warranty period.

The user starts the selected mode, and the control model commands the valve to start supplying water to the SMA tank. If everything is fine, the valve is activated, opens and the tank is filled, after which the wash starts. When a valve is faulty, it does not open all the way. Water is drawn in, but the pressure is less than expected: water flows into the tank, bypassing the powder receptacle. This significantly affects the quality of processing of things.

Important! In Samsung, LG or Indesit models, self-diagnosis promptly detects difficulties in water intake, displaying an error on the display. At Vestela, self-diagnosis in this matter may not notice insufficient pressure.

A valve with a defect cannot be repaired - replace it with a new, serviceable part. Select the appropriate part that matches the model of your SM, and get down to installation.

How to disassemble the equipment to replace the valve? Instructions:

Disconnect the electrical appliance.
Disconnect from communications.
Take it out of the niche.
Unscrew the fastenings of the top panel and remove (this is written in detail in the article on how to remove the top cover).
In the place where the inlet hose is connected to the body of the equipment, there is a valve.
Disconnect the wires from the part.
Twist the fasteners that hold the plastic part in place and remove it.
Install the new valve by tightening the fasteners and connecting the wires.
Connect the washing machine to the systems and run a test wash to check the correctness of the work done.

Wash won't start

Starting the Vestel machine mode depends not only on the electronics, because usually there are no problems with choosing modes, which means that the software part of the washing machine functions normally.

The main reason for stopping work in this situation is the breakdown of the sunroof control sensor. The device does not notice that the hatch is closed and refuses to start the process. The error is not displayed, because the hatch is actually blocked.

You can verify that the sunroof control device is faulty and replace it as follows:

You need to select the shutdown button, and after 10 seconds turn on the Vestel machine again. You need to do this a couple of times, but if the machine does not respond, you will have to check the locking mechanism;
Before removing the mechanism, you need to disconnect the equipment from the voltage. Then you should open the hatch and pull out the locking mechanism;
The device is connected to the sensor by wires, which are important not to damage;
Using a multimeter you need to measure the resistance. If the resistance readings fluctuate around 0-1, the sensor will have to be replaced.

After repair, household washing equipment will work well in any mode and will not fail for a long time. But if the resistance at the contacts is normal, and startup does not occur, faults must be looked for in the electronics. To do this, it is advisable to call a repairman.

How can I find out about other breakdowns?

If you are a fan of self-repair, fault codes will help you find and eliminate faults in time. The most common of them:

E01 (in models without a display, the first 2 of 4 indicators are lit) indicates UBL.
E03 (the first and last lights are lit) - code for a blockage (other failure) of the drain system.
E05 (second and last lamps) indicate a burnt-out temperature sensor.
E07 (the first three lights are on) - failure of the electronic module.
E08 (the last three indicators come on) - the electric motor has broken down.

What to do if a code appears on the display

When code E01 is shown , this means that the drum door was not closed tightly enough. This signal is duplicated by the blinking of the first and second light indicators. If this happens, simply close the door more tightly. After this, you will need to restart the wash.

It is possible that even with the lid tightly closed, the same error signal is generated. This indicates that the device that locks the hatch is faulty. In this case, it must be replaced. You can do this yourself.

If the water pressure is too weak, the washing machine cannot draw enough water. In such a situation , code E02 will appear on the display , and the first and third indicators will flash.

In this case, first of all, you need to make sure that the water supply tap is open. Another likely cause of the problem is a possible clogged fill valve. In this case, you need to check its mesh and, if there is debris, clean it. To do this you need to do the following:

Another possible reason is a faulty pressure switch. In this case, you need to open the top cover and find the water level sensor. Need to check:

If necessary, this sensor must be replaced.

Signal E03 indicates a pump malfunction. In this case, it could break or become clogged. The error message is duplicated by the blinking of the first and fourth indicators.

In this case, repairs should begin with cleaning the drain filter. You need to look for it at the bottom of the unit. You need to unscrew it counterclockwise. It must be washed under a strong stream of water. After it is cleaned of dirt, you will need to screw it back.

Replacement is done through the bottom of the washing machine. This does not pose any difficulties.

When the display shows code E04 , it means that there is too much water in the tank. The same signal is given by the indicators if the second and third of them blink.

The most common cause of this problem is a clogged filling valve. In this case it needs to be replaced. The valve can be immediately seen if you remove the back wall of the machine. It is located at the connection point of the hose through which water enters the machine. Before carrying out work, you must turn off the water supply.

If the reason lies in the heating element, then it can be easily replaced by opening the service hatch. To remove this element, simply unscrew the fastening bolt, after which you need to disconnect the electrical wires.

The electric motor rarely breaks down. At the same time, carbon brushes most often deteriorate in it. Although it is possible to replace them yourself, it is better to contact a specialist in such a situation with a problem. He will find the cause of the breakdown and perform the necessary repairs. For example, if it happens that the motor windings burn out, then in this case the motor must be replaced.

Error code E05 indicates that the temperature sensor or heating element is faulty. The signal is duplicated by blinking of the second and fourth indicators. If this error occurs, it is recommended to contact service for repair.

With error E06, the electric motor is faulty. In this case, the indicators give a signal by flashing the third and fourth of them. Such a breakdown cannot be repaired independently.

Code E08 indicates that there has been a failure in the electrical network. At the same time, the second, third and fourth lights flash. Although this problem is not directly related to the washing machine, it can cause it to malfunction. In this case, it is better to disconnect from the network for a while and continue working if the network is stable.

The display will show code E09 if the mains voltage deviates from the normal level. Within certain limits, the washing machine can work normally, but this increases the risk of possible breakdown. The signal is duplicated by blinking of the first, second and fourth indicators.

If a violation has occurred in the communication system of the washing machine, it is recommended to perform a diagnostic reboot lasting approximately twenty minutes. If the same code is displayed as a result, this indicates the need to contact a service center for repair. The failure code in this case will be E10 . The indicators will duplicate this signal by blinking the first, third and fourth lights.

Malfunctions of Vestel washing machines
