You loaded the dishes into the Bosch machine, started the washer and got down to business around the house. The dishwasher was whirring as usual, but at some point it stopped, and you discovered that:
- “Crane” flashes on the display and code E15 lights up;
- the drain pump has turned on and is constantly running (sometimes even when the power is turned off);
- The dishwasher does not respond to any commands.
You may have tried to unplug the dishwasher and restart the dishwasher. But it did not help. Code E15 appears on the screen again, and the drain pump is noisy. Let's figure out what are the reasons for the appearance of E15 in a Bosch dishwasher and what to do to get rid of the error.
Error interpretation
Code E15 means that the leakage sensor of the Aquastop system has tripped in the Bosch dishwasher tray. The reason, as a rule, is a leak in the machine itself or in the communications surrounding it. Water enters the pan, the sensor float floats up and the Aquastop leak protection system is activated.
Note! When the leakage protection system is triggered, the drain pump is always turned on. It pumps out any remaining water in the dishwasher to prevent further flooding.
When error E15 occurs in a Bosch dishwasher, the “Tap” indicator always lights up. It signals that the dishwasher has cut off the water supply.
Reasons for the error
Error E15 in a Siemens or Bosch dishwasher indicates the activation of the Aquastop system. This means that the pan is filled with water or the float has a malfunction. The causes of leaks are the following breakdowns:
- malfunction of the water level sensor (if this part burns out, the control unit stops receiving information about the volume of liquid entering the chamber and the filling does not stop);
- clogged drain hose or filter (this happens when loading dishes that have not been cleared of food waste);
- wear of the filler pipes, inlet valve or strainer (water intake does not stop when the pan is filled, which is why the leakage protection is triggered);
- clogged or broken nozzles (improper distribution of water in the hopper can also cause error E 15 in Bosch dishwashers).
When error E15 can be corrected yourself
- Leakage in the utilities surrounding the dishwasher. Check whether the sewerage, plumbing, or pipes located near the dishwasher are leaking. You may have recently spilled water on the floor or countertop where your machine is located. All this could cause water to get into the pan and cause error E 15 to appear. Fix the leak, and the problem will disappear.
- Filters clogged. Not only does it make it difficult for the dishwasher to drain, but it also leads to poor water circulation during the washing process and overflow. As a result of overflow, water enters the pan and Aquastop is triggered. Clogged filters must be cleaned. Moreover, the manufacturer Bosch recommends doing this after every dishwashing. Also, do not forget to clean any large food debris when loading dishes.
- Using hand dishwashing detergents. Some inexperienced users, instead of special powder and rinse aid for dishwashers, pour Fairy-type hand wash products into the machine. This leads to violent foaming. Foam gets into the PMM pan, and error E15 occurs. In this case, you must immediately turn off the dishwasher and unplug the cord from the outlet. Let it dry for two to three days. If after this the dishwasher does not work, it means that the electronics are flooded, and you are in need of repair or replacement of the control unit.
- Excess powder or use of low-quality detergents. Rarely, but it happens. As in the previous reason, it leads to excessive foam formation (but in a smaller volume than when using Fairy) and its entry into the pan. “Treated” with the same methods.
- Adding water from the sewer. A rare story, usually happens with Bosch dishwashers, the drain of which is connected to the sink siphon. If something somewhere in the sewer is clogged and the siphon overflows, then water is poured through the drain path into the machine. When this happens during washing, the machine overflows and error E 15 lights up. To fix the problem, you need to clean the siphon or drain to restore normal drainage from the sink. To prevent re-filling, it is recommended to raise the drain hose to the level of the sink (make a loop), install a check valve on the PMM drain, or even lead it directly into the sewer, bypassing the sink siphon.
Note! After eliminating the cause of error E15, it is necessary to remove water from the pan. Without this, you will not be able to start the washer. You can drain the water by tilting the dishwasher back, wipe it with a rag by dismantling the side wall, or simply wait a few days until the water and foam dry out on its own.
Trying to cope on our own
The article discusses the Bosch dishwasher. How to resolve dishwasher error E15 if there are problems with the Aqua-Stop system? We'll talk about this further.
If the sensor is not sticking to the pan, it is recommended to inspect the housing and the quality of the hose connections. If no problems are identified, you can try the following manipulations:
- The dishwasher plug must be disconnected from the power supply.
- By tilting the body of the machine, you should try to ensure the float is in the correct position within normal limits.
- If water is found in the pan, it must be removed.
- The machine must dry.
As you can see, the method for fixing the “burning faucet” problem is similar to the methods for fixing error code E15.
If the mechanical protection is triggered, you will need to completely replace the hose.
Error E15 in the Bosch SMV 69T40 dishwasher can be resolved in the same way as in other models. This economical equipment is equipped with a reliable full-type leakage protection system. Consequently, the problem in “Aqua-stop” will be indicated by the display glowing with an error code. Also, this model of dishwasher is characterized by high energy saving capabilities.
Possible faults requiring repair
E 15 is a common error that RemBytTech technicians encounter when repairing Bosch dishwashers. Here is a list of possible breakdowns that cause the error.
Signs | Breaking | Repair or replacement | Cost* (work only) |
The Bosch dishwasher writes error E15 and the faucet is drawn. The PMM does not respond to commands, the drain pump is noisy. The first time the error appeared was during filling, draining water or during washing. | Leaking connections inside the dishwasher (pipes, hoses, pumps). The most common cause of the error. Basically, the drainage or water circulation paths leak, and rarely the flood paths. | The technician checks the drainage, circulation, and water intake tracts and finds out the location of the leak. Based on the diagnostic results, he tightens the clamps, replaces worn seals and seals. If hoses and/or pipes are damaged, they are replaced with new ones. | from 1900 rub. |
On the Bosch dishwasher, error E15 and the “Faucet” indicator are on, the drain pump does not turn off. The error first occurred during the wash cycle. | Clogged filters located at the bottom of the PMM. They purify the water from food residues, preventing them from entering the recirculation pump. When they become clogged, water does not circulate well during washing, overflow occurs in the washing tank, and an error light comes on. | The dishwasher filters need cleaning. | On your own or from 1300 rubles. |
When draining, error E15 and “Tap” came on, the drain pump works and does not turn off. | Drain hose leaking. Its connection to the sewer or drain pump has become depressurized. Or the hose is damaged. | The disconnected hose is fixed in its original place. If damaged, the master replaces it with a new one. | from 1500 rub. |
While washing the Bosch PMM, it displays error E15, the “Tap” flashes and the drain turns on. The dishwasher won't turn off. | Leaking pan seal in the washing tank. A common leak in Bosch dishwashers after five years of use. The rubber seal becomes unusable and begins to let water into the pan. | The seal needs to be replaced. The master uses a pallet repair kit for repairs. | from 1800 rub. |
Corrosion and leakage of the washing chamber. Happens rarely and only in Bosch dishwashers with a long service life. The stamping areas at the bottom of the tank near the glass are rotting and leaking. The holes are usually small. | A temporary solution is to seal the holes with high-temperature sealant. Such repairs can extend the life of the machine by up to 1 year. To completely forget about the leak, you need to replace the tank with a new one. | from 3000 rub. | |
An error appeared on the sink, and the faucet blinked on the display. The PMM does not respond to buttons, the drain pump is constantly running. | The door seal is worn or damaged. Because of this, water flows through the dishwasher door onto the floor during washing, from there it flows into the pan and the error light comes on. | The seal needs to be replaced. | from 1800 rub. |
A Bosch dishwasher that has been standing in an unheated room in winter displays error E15 when filling with water and does not wash dishes. | The salt tank or heat exchanger canister is cracked. There is always water left in the PMM after washing. If the machine is left in a room with a negative temperature for a long time, the water will freeze, and the ice can rupture plastic vessels, hoses and pipes. If you turn on the wash on such a machine, a leak will occur. | The heat exchanger canister, salt tank and other damaged components need to be replaced. | from 2000 rub. |
The machine shows error E 15, although there is no leakage (the dishwasher tray is dry). | Aquastop sensor . Stuck and erroneously reports a leak. | The sensor needs to be repaired or replaced. | from 1900 rub. |
Control block. The elements that control the operation of the leakage protection system have burned out. | The technician finds out which elements in the module have failed and resolders them with new ones. In case of serious damage to the board or failure of the processor, the entire control unit is replaced. | from 2500 rub. |

What does error code E15 mean?
Modern PMMs from Bosch, Siemens, Neff and other well-known manufacturers are equipped with self-diagnostic systems. They are able to localize most problems and report them by displaying a fault code on the display. As a rule, codes of possible breakdowns and their interpretation are listed in the accompanying documentation for the equipment .
If the Bosch dishwasher has an E15 error and the faucet is on, this means that a special sensor has detected a water leak at the bottom of the unit. The Aquastop protection system is activated, and the equipment stops washing dishes. Other possible malfunctions are malfunctions in the operation of the leakage protection system itself (sticking of the float or breakdown of the sensor) or failure of the impellers.
A float is built into the dishwasher tray, which, when water enters, immediately rises and begins to put pressure on the miniature switch, causing it to operate. The signal from the switch activates the valve mounted in the inlet hose. The water supply stops, and at the same time the drain pump is turned on, removing liquid from the PMM housing. In this case, water remains in the pan and will have to be removed manually.

When to call a professional for repairs
If you are not confident in your abilities and technical knowledge, do not try to fix the breakdown yourself. The AquaStop system and the associated E15 error can lead to more serious consequences. For example, to burnout of sensors or a working plateau.
When the leakage protection system is triggered, the drain pump is always turned on. It pumps out any remaining water in the dishwasher to prevent further flooding.
Such a leak requires a qualified inspection of the equipment, professional analysis of all parts and knowledge of the nuances of your model.
If, after restarting, error E15 appears again, check the reset algorithm in the instructions supplied with the PMM.
In what cases can you fix error E15 yourself?
Not all possible problems require an urgent call to a technician; first you need to try to solve the problem yourself. This can be done in the following cases:
- Error in the software system. If the machine is new and has never been repaired, then the error may appear not only due to some kind of malfunction, but also due to a voltage drop. The solution is quite simple - reset the settings.
Each Bosch dishwasher model has its own reset algorithm. You should read this in the instructions that came with the machine.
The most universal and fastest way to resolve error E15 is to disconnect the device from the network and leave it turned off for at least 15 minutes. If error E15 is displayed again after a reset, try the following algorithm:
- open the machine door;
- hold down the buttons of the first and third programs for 4 seconds;
- close and then reopen the loading door;
- use the reset button, holding it for 4 seconds;
- Close the door again and wait for the program end signal.
If the previous methods did not work, then try holding down the power button and hold it for about 30 seconds.
- There is a leak in the pipes connected to the dishwasher. Check plumbing and drains for leaks. Maybe you recently accidentally spilled water on the countertop - this can also cause liquid to get into the pan and cause error E15 to appear. Get rid of the leak and the problem will go away.
- Using liquid for hand washing dishes. Some owners, instead of special powder and rinse aid for dishwashers, use conventional products, for example, Sorty or Fairy. This leads to increased foam formation, which causes the error to appear.
When this happens, immediately turn off the dishwasher and unplug the power cord. Let it dry for two to three days. If after this the dishwasher does not work, it means that the electronics are flooded, and repairs are no longer possible.
- Blockage. Due to contamination of the filters, water circulation is disrupted, which leads to overflow of the drain systems and liquid entering the pan. To solve the problem, you just need to clean the filters. By the way, the manufacturer recommends doing this after each dishwashing, and also clearing it of large food residues before loading it into the machine.
Decoding error E15
This error indicates problems with drainage. The code is displayed when the AquaStop system is activated, which detects an increase in the permissible water level in the tank, problems with the drainage system or pump. “Aquastop” is a device designed to protect a consumer’s home from flooding. The bottom of the dishwasher is located at a slight angle. At the bottom there is a foam float, which, when liquid appears, floats up and presses the sensor. As a result, the drain pump turns on automatically.
Decoding symbols
Error e 15 in the Bosch dishwasher informs the owner that the Aquastop leak protection system has been activated. In other words, a certain amount of liquid has leaked onto the unit pan or the float mechanism has jammed.
The reasons for the formation of a leak may be hidden in:
- leakage sensor malfunction;
- formation of a blockage in the drain system;
- worn pipe or low level of sealing;
- malfunctions in nozzles.
Most often, you can fix the problem at home; do not rush to call the service center. Users of technical forums who have encountered the same breakdown say that to correct the situation, it is enough to disconnect the dishwasher from the electrical network and tilt it at an angle of forty-five degrees.
In some cases, simply shaking the unit is enough. These manipulations will help get rid of the float mechanism jamming on the pan. After this, it is necessary to remove excess liquid from the system by placing the machine in an inclined position and drying it.
As a rule, to ensure proper drying, it is enough to leave the dishwasher open overnight.
For owners of a built-in dishwasher, troubleshooting this problem will seem troublesome. But the only alternative to this is to contact a specialist and then pay for his services. Compliance with all these instructions in most situations guarantees the elimination of error E15, and the operation of the unit returns to normal. But if after some time the situation repeats itself, you should be wary and contact the service for a full diagnosis.
